Since the time I started exploring fashion to present day, I have always loved thick oversized chunky cardigan’s. I almost instantly feel cozy when I put them on which is essential for these colder days. Today, I am showing you a piece I just recently picked up at Nordstrom Rack from John + Jenn, which is a newer brand on my radar. I’m also giving my personal 411 on what I think is important when in the market for anything with a knit material.
CHECK THE STITCHING
There have been so many times where I have been drawn to a knit cardigan or sweater, only to find that it is slowly falling apart. One of my top recommendations is to look closely at the quality of fabric. I always make sure that I feel the fabric and make sure it doesn’t have strings of fabric hanging out. I really love this one from John + Jenn. The buttons on it are sown in nicely and the stitching is great!
KNOW YOUR BUDGET
My second tip is to know what your budget is before you go shopping for knit pieces. Knit cardigan’s can come in all ranges of price points. This one pictured I found for $50 dollars, which I would consider good quality, but not unreasonably expensive. Also note that the cheaper the knit item, the higher the potential of it being lower quality (unless, you find a STEAL at a thrift store). I would much rather buy 1 item that is on the higher scale and well made vs. 20 items that are cheaper and will fall apart.
MAKE IT NEUTRAL AND VERSATILE
My last tip when looking for a knit item for your wardrobe is to make it neutral and versatile. If you are like me and have only a few pieces of knit items, I recommend that it is something that can go with many existing pieces in your closet. Many of my sweaters/cardigan’s are either a grey, blue, tan, black, or maroon color. All of these colors pair nicely with jeans and a bolder shoe or shirt. Since knit pieces can be more expensive than other items in your wardrobe, going neutral in the color palette ensures you will get a lot of use out of it.
