I love thrift shopping. In fact, I do not even have to shop, just going to a thrift store and looking around is fun enough for me. Thrift stores are like treasure hunts. You walk in and you never know what you are going to find. There have been times were I have walked into a thrift store and found items that are worth hundreds of dollars or items that I can take home with me, cut up, and turn into a workout tee. As long as you walk in with an imagination and a carefree attitude, anyone can love thrifting. Here are my reasons why I love to go thrift shopping.
Reason #1: Its cheaper!
Thrift stores are always cheaper. One time I found a Brita Water Filter that had not even been opened. Yep, you read right. Normally, those things are about 40 dollars and we picked our up ours for $5 and it came with 2 filters. Total win! I wrote a whole post on little things I do to save money, if you are interested you can check that out here.
Reason #2: They are inspiring
Whenever I walk into a thrift store I always come up with DIY ideas. Does anyone else do this? They sell just about anything and that just gets my creative juices going.
Reason #3: They help not only the environment but the community
Thrift shopping proves that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Donating from the thrift store helps save our landfills and helps provide clothing, and housewares to people who may not be able to afford it.
Reason #4: No one is going to have the same clothes or accessories as you
One downside of shopping retail is that chances are you will see someone who has the same thing as you. I have been watching tv and seen actresses with the same jacket that I have or saw someone with the same shirt as me in the mall. The chances of that happening with a thrift store find are much slimmer. I love to have a unique style and if you do too, try looking at thrift stores.
Reason #5: They are great places to find glassware
Glassware of all shapes and kinds. When Alex and I turned 21 we bought all of our glassware for different alcoholic drinks from our local goodwill. We ended up spending 20 dollars for every liquor glassware you can think of instead of over 100 dollars at a retailer.
Reason #6: You can see stuff that you thought was extinct
The electronics section is one of Alex and I’s favorite section. You can find all sorts of things from old home phones, to CD players, to those huge box sized computers, to old game consoles. I personally wouldn’t buy them but someone who loves electronics might, and they are fun to look at and laugh about.
